The Caracat

The Caracat is a hibrid feline resulting from a Caracal parent and a domestic cat. This hybridation is relatively new, with less than 100 F1 in the world, and with only a handfull of breeders.

The Caracat conserves the caracteristics of it’s Caracl parent : fur instaead of hair, large high and triangular ears, a brush of hair at the ears’ end (shorter though), large paws, a triangular face, black and white markings on the head and face, and a short tail.

The Caracal is a feline that is a lot less reactive than the savannah. Brimming with energy, they are a bit nervous and very curious, and wants to be involved in everything. They love being in high places, where they could sometimes like to carry their meals; just like the Caracal. They need plenty of mental and physical stimulation in order to satisfy their high intelligence and spend their high energy level.

The Caracat truly appreciates human contact and will always try to be around you; they will make your hair it’s playground!

They can be vocal with a unique panoply of unique sounds just like it’s Caracal parent.

The Caracal

The Caracal is a feline that lives in Africa, Middle-East and Asia. They weigh up to 20 kg and can measure 50 cm at the shoulder. It’s fur varies from yellow-brown to red, but the chin, throat, chest and stomach are more pale, even whitish. Black patches are apparent on the cheeks at the base of the whiskers. These warm tones make them specialist in camouflage.

Their large black ears have tall feathery brushes at the end that give them the advantage of having an excellent earing; they actually can hear preys under the ground. In effect, these brushes direct sounds to the auditory canal which is of great importance to the hunt. Not being a great long distance runner, the Caracal depends on it’s hearing to hunt. Their hunting technics are tracking the prey, crawling strategically, then pouncing and grabbing it by the throat in the air or on the ground.

The Caracal feeds on birds, poultry, rabbits, guinea pigs, but still has no problem with hunting prey bigger than itself such as gazelles, antelopes, monkeys, damans, etc.

Like the Serval, the Caracal the hind legs are higher than the front ones, which can make impressive jumps such as 3 meters high. Their great ability to jump and make aerial contorsions allows them to easily catch 2 or 3 birds in one single charge.

They also have a thicker fur under their paws and in between the pads in order to provide them a better ground reception as they live in arid regions with brittle surfaces.

The Caracal, like the serval, is a feline that has been used as hunters in the ancient Egypt.
